Site Tours

Amana Heritage Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Amana’s historical and cultural heritage. Our museum sites offer your group the chance to learn about the Colonies and Iowa. Each of our sites has a story to tell and provides a unique learning experience.

For information on our different heritage sites please visit: our museums page.

Some of the field trips that we offer are:

General Tour

Cost: Single site $1.00 per student
Any combination of sites $1.50 per student

Would you join a communal society?
Have your students become a historic person from Amana, with a specific role in the community. On this field trip students will visit all historic sites and learn about their specific roles in the community, all while personally connecting to history.

Grades:4 and up
Cost: $3.00 per student

History Detective
Your students will become history detectives with the help of specially developed field guides for each heritage site. Use as fieldtrip worksheets or as a supplement to your own.

Walking Tours

Amana

The Amana Heritage Society was established in 1968 as a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Amana's historical and cultural heritage for the community and its descendants. Today, the Heritage Society manages five historic museum sites located in four of the seven Amana villages and the High Amana General Store. Our mission statement is the guiding force behind all aspects of the Amana Heritage Society's activities and programs.

Mission Statement
Recognizing that the Amana story is significant, and guided by the inspired directive of Christian Metz to "let your heritage not be lost, but bequeath it as a memory, treasure and blessing." the Amana Heritage Society collects, preserves and interprets the heritage of the Amana community from its True Inspirationist beginnings to the present day. We strive to be the historian of our community, expanding our collections of artifacts, library and archival materials - and ideas - and making them available to the general public and scholars.

The Amana Heritage Society programs and exhibits are
supported in part by a Cultural Enrichment Grant from the
